NETMOD WG developing standard system, interface, IP, and routing YANG modules

The NETMOD WG in the IETF is developing standard YANG modules for the configuration and monitoring of several core system services, using the NETCONF protocol. These module will provide basic parameters and a framework which will allow network equipment vendors and standards organizations to augment with specialized objects.

The following modules are being developed:

* ietf-system.yang: This module provides basic system configuration and monitoring objects such as local users, clock settings, and DNS settings. It provides basic system information such as the system name and revision information. It is defined in the draft YANG Data Model for System Management.

* ietf-interfaces.yang: This module provides basic network interface configuration objects. Its main purpose is to serve as the conceptual interface framework for other domain or protocol specific YANG modules to augment and fill in. It is defined in the draft A YANG Data Model for Interface Configuration.

* ietf-ip.yang: This module provides basic IP configuration parameters for the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. It is defined in the draft A YANG Data Model for IP Configuration.

* ietf-routing.yang: This module provides comprehensive configuration and monitoring of IP routing. There are additional modules specific to the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. It is defined in the draft YANG Routing Configuration.
